Idli Dosa is weekly affair at my home. My family including my little one is very fond of this south indian dishes. we will see how to make dosa batter at home with  step wise Pics.


  • 1 glass Urad Whole ( Even Urad Dal can be used)
  • 2 glass Idli Rice
  • 1 glass Rice
  • 1 tsp  Dry Fenugreek Seeds



First mix all the ingredients and wash properly. Wash till water comes Clean. Allow it to soak with plenty of water for at least 7-8 hrs or overnight.  There is also a way to soak everything seperately , grind and then mix all well. Actually i never tried that way. I always make Idli Dosa batter like this only and always Result comes very very spongy Idli and Crispy Perfect Dosa.


Now,Remove water if it has more than a glass . Grind this soaked dal rice in a grinder or mixer. Dont Add much water while grinding. Batter should be thick enough.


Now take this batter to a wide and big container , and keep in a warm and dry place for fermentation at least for 7-8 hrs or overnight.

You can store this batter in refrigerator for a day or two. I use only for 48 hrs. Fermented items never store for long period.

Use as required . Add salt and water only when use.
