Sumptuous, tasty and aromatic Moong Dal Dhokla is a traditional Gujarati Snack . Serve with spicy Coriander Chutney and Sweet Turmerind Chutney to make it perfect Tongue-tickling snack.

This delicious and feather soft Dhokla  can be enjoyed as a snack for Breakfast , high Tea Party or as an accompaniment to the main course.

One can make some variations to this Dhokla. You can add Some Sweet Corns at time of grinding. One can add some chopped vegetables too. Give wings to your imaginations and Dhokla can be ready..

Lets see the detailed recipe:

To make Batter

  • 1.5 cup Yellow Moong Dal
  • 3-4 Green Chilies
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Hing
  • Salt
  • 3 tbsp Curd
  • 2 tsp Oil
  • 2 tsp Gram Dal Flour (Besan)
  • 2 tsp Sugar
  • 1.5 tsp Fruit Salt (ENO)

To Temper

  • 2 tsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1.5 tsp Sesame seeds
  • 2 Green Chilies Chopped
  • 1-2 Red Dry Chilies
  • Curry Leaves
  • 1/2 tsp Hing

To Garnish

  • 2 tsp Chopped Coriander
  • 2 tsp Grated Fresh Coconut (Optional)

Wash Yellow Moong Dal and soak with sufficient water for at least 3-4 hrs , or Soak in a warm water for 1-1.5 hr. Drain the access water. Now Grind Moong dal and Green chilies with just 1 or 2 tsp Water.

Take out in a bowl. Now add rest all things except Eno and make batter. Add some water if you feel batter is too thick. Batter consistency also plays major role for perfect outcome. It should not be too thick or too thin. Mix very well.

Other side keep steamer ready with a greased plate. Steamer and greased plate ( in which u will pour the Dhokla Batter) should be hot when u pour batter. Now add Eno in batter. Add a tsp water on Eno. Mix very well. Pour immediately in hot greased plate. Close the lid and steam for 8-10 mins. One can bake it too. it will take hardly 2.5 to 3.5 mins to bake.

In a small Kadai or Pan take oil. Add chilies, mustard, curry leaves and sesame seeds. When all done add Hind and spread on Dhokla and Garnish.. ( I didnt add Coconut as was not available at home 🙂 )

Enjoy With Green Coriander Chutney and Sweet Turmerind Chutney

Happy Cooking 🙂 🙂
