Sev, is a crispy, thread-shaped snack made from spiced chickpeas dough. It has melt in mouth texture and enjoyable flavour. Masala sev is popular all over India , may be with little variations. Its a perfect Jar snack. Very addictive and tongue tickling..

A crunchy , tasty and easy to make snack which is perfect with a cup of hot Tea/Coffee .

One can omit red chilli powder and can make plain sev . Such plain sev also can be used in many snacks .

For this recipe in Gujarati Language , check out here ..

Ingredients:

  • 4 cup Besan
  • 1.5 tsp Red Chilli Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Asafoetida
  • 1 tsp Black Salt
  • 5-6 tsp Hot Oil
  • Salt as per Taste

Method:
Take Besan in a bowl and add Turmeric powder

, Salt , Black Salt , Red chilli powder and Asafoetida. Mix well and knead a dough by adding little little water. Dough should be soft.

Now add hot oil and mix nicely. Hot oil will help to make Sev very crispy and melt in mouth. Grease hands and take a small portion and fill in greased kitchen press .

Now with the help of kitchen press fry it in hot oil. In kitchen press, use the plate which has thin holes. Make sure oil is enough hot. Less Hot oil wont give crunchiness and over heated oil wont give proper texture.

Move kitchen press in circular motion in hot oil. Once bubbles settles bit , flip it carefully. This snack won’t take much time . So be focused.

Take it out when done. Once cool bit, store in a dry and air tight container..

It’s an addictive , quick and easy snack . Which is perfect for snacks, tiffins, or munching. Hope you will enjoy it too.

Happy Cooking 🙂 🙂

  1. I have tried to make sev couple of times , but my sev were never that soft and crisp as in market. Then I stopped making them. By looking at your pics, I think I have come to know about my mistake. My dough used to be stiffer as compared to yours. Will certainly give it a try. I’m sure they should come out fine now. Thanks for the recipe
