This non – fried Bread Pakoda , is a healthy, very delicious and a perfect weekend treat or party snack ..It is also a best option for tiffin box .. Bread Pakoda is a very popular and common street food also known as Bread Bhajji, which is made from bread slices, gram flour, and spices along with other ingredients . Crispy outer layer , soft -mild spicy inner layer , served with variety of chutneys and enjoy the weekend..
Mainly, bread pakoda can be made with stuffing and without stuffing .. Just apply the fresh , spicy green coriander chutney between 2 bread slices and dip this sandwich in chickpeas batter and fry in hot Oil. For another version , we will feel potato mixture between 2 bread slices and fry.
Here , we will see the non fried method to make bread pakoda . With same taste , same crispiness but with very less calories . No Compromise with taste 🙂 🙂
I have served Non Fried Bread Pakoda with Fresh Coriander Chutney , Dates Turmerind Chutney and Garlic Chutney ..
Checkout the video recipe for bread pakoda ..
lets checkout the easy and quick recipe..
INGREDIENTS:
For Stuffing :
- 1.5 cup boiled,mashed potatoes
- 1 tsp roasted cumin powder
- salt
- 1/5 tsp Red chilli powder
- 3 tbsp chopped coriander
- 1 tsp grated ginger
- 1/2 tsp black salt
- 1 tsp roasted cumin powder
- Some chopped green chilies (optional)
For batter :
- 1.5 cup Chickpeas flour (Besan)
- 1/2 tsp Carom seeds (Ajwain)
- Salt
- 1 tbsp Red Chilli Powder
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
- 1 tbsp chopped coriander
METHOD:
First lets make batter .. In a mixing bowl , take Chickpeas Flour . Add salt, carom seeds, turmeric powder , red chilli powder and chopped coriander. Mix everything . Now we have to add water. Be very attentive while adding water in Besan to make batter. For this non fried Bread Pakoda , we will add water with the same quantity of Besan we have used. 1.5 cup Chickpeas Flour mean 1.5 cup Water. Such measurement will give perfect consistency of batter.
After adding water , mix it nicely and allow it to rest for 10-15 min. Mix again and make sure there is no lump.
Now lets make filling.
If your boiled potatoes are ready in freeze, this step will take just 3-4 minutes,. And if not then boil the potatoes .Boil potato for 3-4 whistles on medium flame, allow it to cool . Peel and mash nicely.
Now in a mixing bowl take mashed potatoes . Add salt, black salt , cumin powder , grated ginger , red chilli powder . I have not used chopped green chillies as I was serving to my little one ,but if you prefer please add some nicely chopped green chillies too.
Mix everything very nicely. Our stuffing is ready .
Now its time to assemble ..
Take bread slices. With the help of spoon , spread the stuffing on bread . Be careful otherwise bread will crumble easily. For easiest way , put stuffing on center and spread outer side with back side of spoon . Now cover this slice with a plain bread slice. If you wish you can apply coriander chutney on this plain bread slice.
Heat a non stick griddle / Tava. Sprinkle few drops of Oil on it. Now, the sandwich , which we made with stuffing , dip in chickpeas batter nicely. make sure it cover all sides. Handle with soft hands.
Try to coat gently all 6 sides of sandwich . Place it gently on non stick tava. Add few more drops of Oil if needed. Once you see sides getting crispy, flip it carefully . Allow it to roast nicely. Make sure , one has to roast 4 sides also . Else the raw batter taste will spoil the whole mood.
Once all sides get crispy or nicely cook, take it on plate. Cut in halves and serve immediately with variety of chutneys. One can serve with Tea or just tomato sauce .

Love this recipe and It is a huge hit at my place as we both love bread pakodas but cant eat the fried stuff. With few drops of oil and couple of pieces, this is surely much better than the fried version. When my niece visits home, I make this with a cheese slice in between and she loves it.
